ingredients for hurrana

  1. kadale belle-2 cups
  2. togari belle-1 cup
  3. bella(jaggerry)powder-1 1/2 cup
  4. fresh grated coconut-1/2 holu
  5. ellakki powder-little


  1. cook both the dhals in water in pressure cooker till done or one whistle
  2. cool and strain through a colander to remove excess water and grind to a smooth paste along with coconut and jaggerry.add ellakki powder
  3. if the hurranna is watery ,dry it up by frying in a kadai

ingredients for kannaka

  1. godi hittu(wheat flour)-3 cups
  2. maida-1 cup
  3. salt a -pinch
  4. turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  5. oil-3 to 4 tblsps


  1. mix all the ingredients till it blends well
  2. add water gradually and knead to a soft pliable dough.
  3. keep closed for some time
  4. again knead the dough till it becomes soft.

method for making obbattu

  1. make even sized (big lemon sized)balls out of the hurrana(dhal)
  2. divide kannaka dough into equal number of balls
  3. keep one ball of hurrana inside kannaka,cover and seal well
  4. flatten it and pat on top of a greased plastic sheet or plantain leaf
  5. heat a flat tava over the stove
  6. turn over obbattu on top of tava,peel the plastic sheet carefully
  7. cook on both sides,
