Onion Thokku


  1. small onion-1/4 kg
  2. tamarind-100 gms(soaked)
  3. red chilles-50
  4. salt-1/2 handfull
  5. bella(jagerry)-2 tsp
  6. jeera,pepper corns,menthya(methi) seeds-1 tsp each(dry roasted and powdered)
  7. turmeric powder-1 tsp
  8. oil-1/2 cup
  9. sasivae(mustard seeds)-2 tsp
  10. curry leaves-few


  1. grind peeled onion to a coarse paste
  1. heat oil add red chilles fry till you get the sound
  2. to the fried chilles,add salt,tamarind,bella,turmeric powder grind it add onion paste also
  3. heat oil in a kadai ,add sasivae,when splutters,add curry leaves,now add ground paste,stir till oil separetes
  4. add ground powder mix well.
  5. cool and store in a dry bottle.
