Chocolate Cake
ingredients
- maida-1 3/4 cup
- baking powder-1 tsp
- cooking soda-1 tsp
- salt-a pinch
- butter-1 cup
- powdered sugar-1 cup
- eggs-2
- vanilla essence-1 tsp
- cocoa powder-3 tblsp
- milk-1 cup
- hot water-1/2 cup
- white vinegar-2 tsps
temperature-180*c
method
- beat butter and vanilla essence in a large mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy.
- add sugar,beat well,gradually add eggs one by one,beating all the time,until mixture is creamy.
- blend cocoa powder in hot water to make a smooth paste.
- add to the above mixture
- add vinegar to milk to sour.
- sift maida,baking powder,salt,soda,together,add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour milk.
- stir lightly but thoroughly.
- pour into a buttered and floured cake tin and bake for 30 minutes or until top of the cake springs back when lightly pressed.
- cool in tin for 10 minutes then turn out and allow to cool completely.
- spread icing over top and sides of the cake
for icing
- butter-1 cup
- icing sugar-2 1/2 cup
- cocoa powder-3 tblsp
- hot water-3 tblsp
method
- place butter in a mixing bowl,beat until light and fluffy
- add icing sugar with cocoa powder (mixed with hot water until smooth)
- beat until smooth to spreading consistency.
- split cake in half horizontally,and sandwich layers with icing
- spread rest of the icing over top and sides of cake.
