Chocolate Cake

ONE TYPE

Ingredients

  1. maida-1 3/4 cup
  2. baking powder-1 tsp
  3. cooking soda-1 tsp
  4. salt-a pinch
  5. butter-1 cup
  6. powdered sugar-1 cup
  7. eggs-2
  8. vanilla essence-1 tsp
  9. cocoa powder-3 tblsp
  10. milk-1 cup
  11. hot water-1/2 cup
  12. white vinegar-2 tsps

temperature-180*c

Method

  1. beat butter and vanilla essence in a large mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy.
  2. add sugar,beat well,gradually add eggs one by one,beating all the time,until mixture is creamy.
  3. blend cocoa powder in hot water to make a smooth paste.
  4. add to the above mixture
  5. add vinegar to milk to sour.
  6. sift maida,baking powder,salt,soda,together,add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour milk.
  7. stir lightly but thoroughly.
  8. pour into a buttered and floured cake tin and bake for 30 minutes or until top of the cake springs back when lightly pressed.
  9. cool in tin for 10 minutes then turn out and allow to cool completely.
  10. spread icing over top and sides of the cake

for icing

  1. butter-1 cup
  2. icing sugar-2 1/2 cup
  3. cocoa powder-3 tblsp
  4. hot water-3 tblsp

Method

  1. place butter in a mixing bowl,beat until light and fluffy
  2. add icing sugar with cocoa powder (mixed with hot water until smooth)
  3. beat until smooth to spreading consistency.
  4. split cake in half horizontally,and sandwich layers with icing
  5. spread rest of the icing over top and sides of cake.

SECOND TYPE

Ingredients

  1. maida-100 gms(1 cup full)
  2. corn flour-1 tblsp
  3. salt-a pinch
  4. butter-100gms(1/2 cup)
  5. powdered sugar-115 gms(1/2 cup +2 tblsp)
  6. egg-3
  7. cocoa powder-1 tblsp
  8. soda-1/4 tsp
  9. baking powder-3/4 tsp
  10. vanilla or chocolate essence-1/2 tsp
  11. milk as required

Method

  1. sieve maida,corn flour,baking powder,soda,cocoa powder thrice.
  2. cream butter and sugar to light and fluffy'
  3. add egg one by one along with essence beating all the time.
  4. add maida little by little by cut and fold method
  5. pour to a greased and dusted tin.
  6. bake at 180*c for 40 minutes or till done

can add wallnuts or cashew nuts for the cake
